| Three Successful Models of the Human Body. The Psychological Model, The Medical Model, The Meridian Model |
| The Psychological Model The Psychological model views the body in terms of its connection to the mind. According to this model, most diseases are caused by emotional problems or attitudes, which are expressed symbolically as disease or other problems in the physical body. Hypnotherapy is the related field that has been able to utilize this very successful model to the fullest. For example, a man has cancer in his back, which is caused by the grief he is holding on to after his wife left him. Although at the conscious level he is not aware of the link between his cancer and his grief, he keeps stating over and over and over again "my wife stabbed me in the back." Past life memories can also have an impact on current day problems. For example a woman with migraine headaches remembers a lifetime where she died due to a blow to the head, the current sight of the migraines. No medical reason can be found; however, when she is threatened or afraid, a migraine headache returns. The Medical Model The medical model deals with the body in almost exclusively material terms. It takes;little account of the mind or anything else it cannot measure directly. The map of the human body is a physical one that shows where the various organs, muscles, nerves, and cellular structure are located. It also describes how these work together from the point of view of chemistry and physics. Modern medicine's major strength lies in its ability to handle medical traumas and to operate on defective parts to repair them. Modern medicine's major weakness lies in its perception of symptoms as equivalent to the diseases themselves. So it uses drugs to suppress symptoms while leaving the real cause of the disease rooted in the body, where it continues to grow and is likely to show up later on as a greater problem. The negative side effects of drugs also cause the real problem to grow worse even faster. For example, a cancer is operated on and removed, but later it shows up again; this is called a "recurring disorder." A patient is on asthma medication for 12 years; as soon as the asthma symptoms disappear, the patient develops diabetes. Treating symptoms as if they were diseases also forces medical science to view the body as a collection of material parts, like a mechanics view of a car. In spite of these limitations and others, the medical model is extremely successful at what it does best; operate on diseased body parts. Also relatively new field of genetic engineering may soon open new areas in which medical science will prove very effective. |

| The Meridian System-Energy Medicine (Bio-Energic Model) The Bio-Energetic model is derived from the ancient philosophy of Acupuncture and Acupressure. This model uses the physical part of the body that is governed by an energy system of Ki/Chi, which functions as a higher-level nervous system that controls and feeds both the physical nervous system and all the physical functions and activities of the body. Staying connected to Source (as Dr. Wayne Dyer states in his book 'The Power of Intention' ) is the key to this model. Physical problems are simply external symptoms of blockages that existed in the body’s energy system prior to their physical appearance in specific parts of the body. (The lessons of life.) Knowledge of this energy system enables us to discover and clear the energy blocks before and after they manifest themselves as physical problems. |
| The body’s energy system is composed of meridians. To understand this I use the comparison of a House that you live in. Physical problems are simply an external symptom of Blockages in the Body (the same way our house we live in has physical problems. (i.e. leaky basement, electrical outages, foundation settling) The electrical system of the body is called Meridians (the same way our house has an electrical system) Each meridian controls a major organ of the body (The same way each electrical wire controls a room in the house) Our power sources of the body are called Chakras (The same way each electrical wire has a circuit breaker) Our Chakras are powered by our beliefs, thoughts, and emotions (Energy in Motion) (The same way each circuit breaker is "tripped" by a power surge) Within each Chakra lies energy that powers our thoughts, feelings, desires and needs. These are the cords. (The same way that "Plugging" too many cords into each room within the house blows our circuit breakers!) Most of use live in our head, (our Family room within the house) Therefor, the rooms within the body (our house), has its energies shut down, turned off, or stagnate (stuck). We repeat the story of what we think is or has happened to us and we keep our own self stuck or shut down, turned off from life. |
| In the Bio Energetic Model a Bodywork or Massage Therapist works with the Energies of the body, our house. (not focusing on the symptoms or expectations that reside in our head). Using techniques to open the Meridians, Chakras and muscles which contain the stuck or blocked energy. Many people will identify a "Story" associated with the pain or energy being released and others may just unblock the "stuck" energy by moaning, yelling, crying or throwing up. |
| As the muscles, Chakras and Meridians open from the release, the subconscious opens up to a new version or understanding of the blocked energy and is released from some of the past beliefs and thoughts, therefore turning on the energy to the Chakra, Meridian, and muscle, and organ. |
| By regaining energy to the part of the body where it was "stuck", energy is now open to parts of the body that may have had pain, numbness, or deterioration. New life force energy and joy are ALLOWED to flow, living our dreams and desires and providing for our own needs. |
